The loose metal hinge on the workshop door made a dry click every time it swung. Someone would catch it with one hand, grab a screwdriver with the other, and stop that noise before it became a problem. The screws went back in, the door sat straight, and the job was done without buying a new door. That was how plenty of things stayed useful back then. That is the idea behind it.
The line works because "Keep" carries the weight. It says something was worth fixing because it still had work left in it. Men who grew up repairing what they owned will read it and nod. So will dads, grandpas, and anyone who keeps the old screwdriver around for a reason. This design is not a lecture about saving the past or a complaint about how things are made now. It is a plain statement about knowing the value of something and keeping it going.
