In 1978, the sole-stitching machine at the shoe shop quit halfway through a pair of boots. Mom opened the back and found the belt had slipped off its wheel. She put it back instead of replacing the machine, then finished the boots. A record crackled from the little player behind the counter. That is the idea behind it.
