Folds the paper map. Sets the gate post straight before sundown. Fixes the mower instead of buying another. Makes the drink the way he learned it. People call that old fashioned. He calls it earned.
Look closely at the design: the glass, the orange peel, the sun going down behind the pines. It says both, and you never have to explain it.
CLIP & KEEP
The house Old Fashioned
- 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
- 1 sugar cube (or 1 tsp simple syrup)
- 2–3 dashes aromatic bitters
- 1 strip orange peel
- 1 large ice cube
- Put the sugar in a rocks glass with the bitters and a splash of water. Muddle until it dissolves.
- Add the whiskey and the big ice cube. Stir for about 30 seconds.
- Twist the orange peel over the glass, run it around the rim and drop it in.
- Put on the cap. Sit down. You’ve earned it.
